This week's edition of Orange-Rockland Masons Online comes out a day early as your intrepid editor prepares to journey to Utica for the annual St. Johns Day festivities. This is a great time, held up at our Masonic Care Community campus, with activities for the whole family. Consider taking a ride up!

I just got home from a great degree conferred by Stony Point-Wawayanda Lodge, with the assistance of Hudson River Lodge, and visiting Brethren from West Point and Jerusalem Temple Lodges, and even Masada Lodge (Prince Hall). It's always a pleasure to see several Lodges working so closely together, and we have another such event coming up next month when Goshen, Cornerstone, and Warwick will be working together to confer the Master Mason Degree on Saturday July 8th. This is what it's all about, getting out and traveling, and sharing in the fraternal spirit of our Craft.

Of course, there's lots that we can involve our families in too! We have the Wallkill Chicken Barbecue, Hudson River Pig Roast, and several parades coming up. We also have Masonic Family Day at Tappan and Masonic Family Day at West Point coming up in September. Please put these dates on your calendars now!

I know many of you are looking forward to a few months off, but the Fall is going to get busy fast, so please take some time to start preparing over the summer. With Rededications and 225th Anniversary events all in September, it's important for all of our new officers to come to Lodge rehearsed with their ritual memorized. We're also preparing to begin District Deputy Visits at the end of that month. Enjoy some time to relax, stay safe, and get ready for an exciting Fall!

SICKNESS AND DISTRESS

It is with heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of R:.W:. William Cocks, Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Orange-Rockland District. He passed into the hands of the Great Architect of the Universe on Monday June 26th after a recent illness. The Orange-Rockland District expresses its deepest condolences to Bill's family and the Brothers of Wallkill Lodge.

The family has requested a Masonic service which will take place at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 29th at Millspaugh Funeral Home in Walden, NY. Any Brother who would like to be a part of this service is requested to arrive at the funeral home no later than 6:30 p.m. If you require further information, please contact the Master of Wallkill Lodge No. 627, Wor. Robert Schroeder.

DISTRICT NEWS

District Staff News
The staff of the District Deputy Grand Master will meet at (air conditioned!) Jerusalem Temple Lodge on Thursday July 6th at 7:30 p.m. to begin planning our Fall visits and programs. If you would like to work with us, please contact the District Deputy Grand Master. We'll have dinner before the meeting at 6:30 p.m., so please RSVP.

We also need representatives from each of the Lodges to act as Lodge Chairmen and Liaisons for Communications, Fellowship and Family Involvement, Community Service, Awards, Youth, and the Brotherhood Fund. If you'd like to get involved at the Lodge or District level, please let us know!

ORDMA Meeting
Wor. Bruce Klein, President of the Orange-Rockland District Masonic Association (ORDMA), has announced that the program for this month's meeting will be a round table discussion of our expectations for the Association, its rule, and its future. The meeting will be held on Monday June 26th at 7:30 p.m. at West Point Lodge. This is an important opportunity and we'd like to see all of our Lodges represented. We'd also like to remind all of our newly Raised Brethren that your membership in ORDMA is FREE for your first year in Masonry. Come join us!

2006 DDGM Visits
The District Deputy Grand Master, RW Joe Leo, and the Masters and Wardens met on Monday June 12th and set the schedule for his Official Visits. To view the schedule, please click here.

NETNEWS News
The first edition of the New York Masons NETNEWS is now online at http://bbs.nymasons.org/netnews. New York Masons NETNEWS (or simply ‘NETNEWS’) is a new electronic means for Grand Lodge and its committees to communicate with Brothers on a regular and timely basis. NETNEWS will be published on the 15th of every month, including the summer. That’s right; NETNEWS will not go dark during the summer months!

NETNEWS will NOT replace the Empire State Mason. In fact, one of the goals of NETNEWS is to provide Brothers with information received after the publication deadline for the ESM. Every month, NETNEWS will focus on: Messages from Grand Lodge Officers; Messages from Grand Lodge Committees; Local items / News by District; News from around the state' and Calendars & upcoming events by District.

Input for NETNEWS comes from the Grand Lodge Officers, Committee Chairmen and Appendant Bodies. However, content will also be collected and/or generated by an appointed representative in each District. Every month, you will be able to count on NETNEWS to provide you with important Masonic information you may not find elsewhere.

We hope you will take a few minutes to visit the site and see everything that is happening around our Grand Jurisdiction. Adobe Reader software is required to read the NETNEWS and is available on the page along with a form that will allow you to subscribe to announcements of upcoming issues. Please share this announcement with your Brothers and remind them that they too can subscribe to receive notification.

The Masonic Compact
You can still view the Masonic Compact as a pdf file by clicking here. Please remember to share this important document with your family and friends. When someone asks you what Masonry is about, you now have the new membership info cards to give them from the new Empire State Mason magazine but, more importantly, you can discuss the points of the Masonic Compact and how being a Freemason has affected your life. Give it another read!

2007 Individual Development Course (iDC) Deadline is June 30th!
The Individual Development Course has been designed to aid Brethren in developing as a person, building character, and crafting success as an individual both within Masonry and in the wider world in which they live. It does not focus specifically on Masonry, but rather on personal skills that can be used in all areas of everyday life: Professionally, at Home, with your Family, in your Community, and any Organization to which you belong.

The major goal of the iDC is to mentor the course participants as they learn, use, share, and refine a diverse range of tools in the areas of personal development, community and group building, group process, interpersonal communication, and project implementation. The course has been streamlined this year with additional elements of computer-based training between sessions replacing some of the classroom lectures, allowing more time to interact with your Brothers from around the state.

The 2007 session of the Individual Development Course will begin on Saturday September 16th and will run on the third Saturday of each month until March. Anyone interested in taking this exciting class should complete the application in the iDC brochures that have been sent to the Lodges and submit it to the District Deputy Grand Master ASAP.

You can also download a copy of the iDC brochure in pdf format by clicking here.

An Invitation to the Masters of Lodges
The Masters of the Orange-Rockland District and their Ladies are cordially invited to meet our Grand Master and members of the Grand Line on Saturday August 12th at noon. This will be a free barbecue with Masters of several surrounding Districts also in attendance. The location will be announced shortly, but please mark your calendars now. We hope that all of the Masters of our District will make every effort to attend.

HELP WANTED

Port Jervis Lodge requires assistance with their Fellowcraft Degree on Friday, June 23rd. at 7:30 p.m.. Specifically, they need two Masters of Ceremony and 2 or 3 conductors. Any help that you can render would be greatly appreciated. If you can be of assistance, please contact the Master, Wor. Joe Ryder.

Wallkill Lodge invites the Brethren of our District to join them in marching in the General Montgomery Day Parade in Montgomery, NY on September 9, 2006, and the Walden Day Parade in Walden, NY on September 16, 2006. For more information, please contact the Master, Wor. Robert Schroeder.

Masonic Family Days are Coming
Masonic Family Day at Tappan will be held on Sunday September 17th and Masonic Family Day at West Point will be held on Saturday September 30th. Both of these events, sponsored by our Grand Lodge, will take place in the Orange-Rockland District and we are looking for volunteers to help with them. Both afford opportunities to socialize with your Brethren, and to introduce family and friends to the Craft. If you can help with either, please contact the DDGM.

SCHOOL OF INSTRUCTION

The Orange-Rockland School of Masonic Instruction has returned! The School will convene on the second Monday of each month, at locations around the District. Instruction will rotate on a monthly basis between Ritual, Grand Lodge educational programs, and seminars on topics like Leadership and Communication.

Our next School will be held on Monday July 10th at Jerusalem Temple Lodge at 8:00 p.m. The work on the trestleboard will be a short program on memorization and learning ritual followed by a social hour with cards and refreshments. A brief Masters and Wardens meeting will precede the School at 7:00 p.m.

If you have any questions, please contact the DDGM. We'll see you there!
