What a great week! The Orange-Rockland District
Masonic Association meeting was one of our most productive to date,
with plans being finalized for both the Holiday Party and Annual Dinner
Dance. We also received our first batch of pocket calendars which came
out beautifully. Kudos to Bruce, Howard, and everyone involved in getting
these to us. Details on all of these are included below.
The District also saw two classes of Entered
Apprentices initiated last Tuesday at Hoffman and Athelstane Lodges.
I promised Charlie VanDeMark that I would give Hoffman a shout out on
a ritual beautifully rendered, and I look forward to joining Athelstane
Lodge at their second Entered Apprentice Degree which
will be held this Tuesday. On Wednesday, Wallkill Lodge will confer
the Master Mason Degree and the Masonic Development Course will continue
at West Point Lodge on Thursday. Also on Thursday, the Masonic War Vets
will hold an informational Pancake Supper with speakers to explain various
programs and opportunities available to veterans. Finally, Port Jervis
Lodge will hold an Entered Apprentice Degree next Friday. It's going
to be another busy week in the Orange-Rockland District!
Saturday kicks off the week, though, with
two events worthy of attention and attendance. On Saturday morning,
Warwick Lodge will participate in ceremonies dedicating a plaque to
the Revolutionary War heroes of their town. Later that evening, Hoffman
Lodge will hold a Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the Goshen Science Olympiad
Team. Details on both of these events are below, please try to come
out and support these awesome efforts to serve our communities!

Hoffman Lodge Hosts Spaghetti Dinner to Benefit the Goshen Science

Did You Know?
When asked how he came to be a Mason, President McKinley
explained:
"After the battle of Opequam, I went with the
surgeon of our Ohio regiment to the field where there were about 5,000
Confederate prisoners under guard. Almost as soon as we passed the
guard, I noticed the doctor shook hands with a number of Confederate
prisoners. He also took from his pocket a roll of bills and distributed
all he had among them. Boy-like, I looked on in wonderment; I didn't
know what it all meant. On the way back to camp I asked him:
'Did you know these men or ever see them before?'
'No,' replied the doctor, 'I never saw them before.'
'But,' I persisted, 'You gave them a lot of money, all you had about
you. Do you ever expect to get it back?'
'Well,' said the doctor, 'if they are able to pay me back, they will.
But it makes no difference to me; they are brother Masons in trouble
and I am only doing my duty.'
"I said to myself, 'If that is Masonry, I will take some of it
myself.' "
