I came across an interesting quote the other day:

"The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority, they show disrespect for adults and love to talk rather than work or exercise. They no longer rise when adults enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter in front of company, gobble down their food at the table and intimidate their teachers."

Some things never change. We always look at the next generation and think they're nothing like us, they shun our values, and don't appreciate what we've done for them. The interesting thing is that the author of this quote was Socrates and it was written in the 5th century B.C.

During the delivery of the Grand Master's Message at our Official Visits, we touch on the subject of generations. There are five clearly defined generations represented within our Lodges, each with their own values, work ethics, preferences for communication, and needs. Grand Lodge has made a determined effort to study these generational differences in the development of its new initiatives, and we realize that every program can't possibly be all things for all Brothers.

One of the exceptions to this, however, is our Child ID program. The Grand Master himself has pointed out that Brothers of different generations who sometimes disagree in a Lodge room have always worked side by side in harmony at these important programs. It's an initiative that everyone seems to find a personal link to and the results have always been positive.

That's why it was so encouraging to see eleven of our twelve Lodges represented at the training on the new Child ID system last Saturday. We're also well on our way toward raising the necessary funds to purchase our own system for the District. All we need now are the contributions from our remaining Lodges and we can place the order. If your Lodge has not yet addressed this (see details below), please bring it up. Let's get the Orange-Rockland District started with this great program. See you next week!

DISTRICT NEWS

Grand Master's Ball Tickets Available
We have just been notified that there are still tickets available for the Grand Master's Ball which will be held on Saturday November 11th at Leonard's of Great Neck (Long Island). As our Grand Master is a member of our District, we encourage every Lodge to be represented at this prestigious event. Tickets are $80 per person and can be obtained through the Grand Marshall, R:.W:. Kurt Ott but hurry... they're going fast!

DeWint House to be Featured on the Radio
The George Washington Headquarters Masonic Historic Site at Tappan and the 1700 DeWint House will be the focus of a special interview on the popular Steve and Sophia morning radio program on WRCR Radio Rockland (1300 on the AM dial) on Tuesday morning, November 7th at 8:15 a.m. Our own R:.W:. Harold Jones, a Past DDGM of our District and the Superintendent of the historic site will be interviewed and will give interesting insights into the popular Rockland County homestead that served as George Washington's Headquarters four times during the Revolutionary War. WRCR Radio Rockland is also heard in parts of Orange County, Westchester, and Bergen County, N. J. Give it a listen!

Child ID Training a Great Success!
The training session on the new Child ID system that was held on Saturday October 28th was a great success! Eleven of our twelve Lodges were represented and are now ready to bring the new and improved Child ID program to their communities. We are about two-thirds of the way toward the purchase of a system for the District and hope to collect donations from the remaining Lodges so that we can order the system this month. Special thanks to Linda Anderson and her team from the Dutchess District for putting together this training for us. For more information about the new system, please contact Wor. Wayne Flavin.

Blood Drive
The Brothers of Athelstane Lodge ave asked us to spread the word about an upcoming Blood Drive which will be held on Friday, November 3rd from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Louis Kurtz Civic Center. The Center is located at 9 North Main Street at the corner of Lawrence Avenue, one block north of the railroad tracks in Spring Valley. This vital service deserves the participation of the community at large, remember, the gift of life is the most precious gift one can give. Please pass the word along to all.

It is important that every Lodge be represented by its Brotherhood Fund Chairman or another designee at this meeting.
