September is coming to a close with three great activities. Tonight, Friday September 29th, West Point Lodge No. 877 will host our Grand Master and his Grand Line, and the Brethren of Manchester Lodge from Manchester CT who will confer the Degree of Fellowcraft 'Connecticut Style'. It's not too late to join us, the gavel comes down promptly at 7:30 p.m. Tomorrow is Masonic Family Day at West Point and we're sold out. I look forward to seeing some of you there!

On Sunday October 1st, the Grand Master and his Grand Line will join us in honoring and receiving our District's new District Deputy Grand Master, Grand Director of Ceremonies, Grand Representatives, and Assistant Grand Lecturers. The festivities will be held at the Walden Fire House Social Hall in Walden, NY. Complete details appear below. It's not too late to join us, and an RSVP would be greatly appreciated, but some tickets will be available at the door

I would also like to thank the new District Staff and my traveling companions, R:.W:. David Blasch, V:.W:. John Cola, V:.W:. Scott Klein, and R:.W:. George Blasch for a great opening DDGM Official Visit at Hudson River Lodge last Wednesday. We'll be at West Point Lodge on Thursday, and I hope that Brothers from around the District will use these visits to travel to other Lodges and share in the fun and fellowship of these evenings. The presentations were fun and informative, and your attendance is most welcome!

Finally, I would like to thank the Orange-Rockland District Masonic Association (ORDMA) for making their first donation to match the Lodges who have contributed toward the purchase of a District Child ID System. So far, five Lodges have contributed $125 each, along with several personal contributions from around our District. If your Lodge has not yet contributed, please make a motion to do so and support this important community service endeavor. Don't forget the system training session on October 28th (details below)!

It's going to be a LONG weekend. I'll see you next week!

DISTRICT NEWS

West Point Lodge to Host Connecticut Degree Team
Here's an interesting way to kick off Masonic Family Day at West Point on September 30th! The Brothers of Manchester Lodge No. 145 from Manchester, Connecticut will confer the Fellowcraft Degree on one of their Entered Apprentices at a Special Communication of West Point Lodge on Friday September 29th. You are cordially invited to join the Brothers of West Point Lodge as they welcome the Grand Master, M:.W:. Neal I. Bidnick, and his Grand Line, these Brothers from our neighboring jurisdiction, and visiting Brethren from around the state for this very special event. Brothers from our District are encouraged to attend, but please RSVP to Wor. Russ Anderson if you plan to attend the dinner at 6:00 p.m. preceding the meeting.

Meet Your Grand Master Regional Meeting
All Lodge officers are cordially invited and encouraged to attend the Meet Your Grand Master regional meeting which will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the Latham Masonic Temple in Latham, NY. The Temple is located at 206 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY 12110. Registration and coffee will be held at 8:00 a.m. and the program will begin at 8:30 a.m. A light lunch will be served before you return home. These programs are usually over by lunchtime and are a unique opportunity for you to address your questions and concerns to the Grand Master in an informal setting. You will also hear about new Grand Lodge programs and share fellowship with Lodge Officers from half a dozen Districts. We hope that you will make every effort to attend this important meeting. Please confirm your attendance with the Senior Grand Deacon, RW Al Dais, at pddgm4m@aol.com.

Child ID System Fundraiser
The Orange-Rockland District is trying to raise funds to purchase its own Child ID system, which now consists of a laptop computer, camera, fingerprint digitizer, printer, etc. These systems cost about $2500 and while Grand Lodge now owns over a dozen units, demand is strong, and we'd like to have one in the District. ORDMA is working to subsidize the purchase and we are asking each Lodge to consider contributing $125 toward the cost. Individual donations are also greatly appreciated with any surplus going toward the purchase of supplies. Please make out and send your checks to Jerusalem Temple Lodge with 'Child ID' in the memo field. If you have any questions, please contact

Masters and Wardens Meeting
The Masters and Wardens will meet at Jerusalem Temple Lodge on Monday October 9th at 7:00 p.m., and we look forward to hearing reports about the 225th Anniversary Interfaith Services and Breakfasts being held around the district on September 10th. The meeting will be held prior to the School of Instruction which will convene at 8:00 p.m. The trestleboard for the School will be the Entered Apprentice Degree. We hope to see everyone there!

Orange-Rockland Child ID Training
It is regrettable that our Community Service chairman, Wor. Wayne Flavin, was the only Brother from the District who was able to attend the training on the new Child ID system last weekend. With the new system now in place, it is imperative that every Lodge participating in the Child ID program have a team trained in the use of the new computer-based system. To facilitate this, a training session will be held on the morning of Saturday October 28th at the Cornwall Masonic Temple in Mountainville, NY at 10:00 a.m. All Lodges are encouraged to send a team to the training, and some other local service and law enforcement organizations have been invited to join us for this training.

Brotherhood Fund Meeting
R:.W:. Robert Stack, Chairman of the Masonic Brotherhood Fund, and members of his team will be at Hoffman Lodge in Middletown, NY on Saturday November 4th to train local Lodge and District chairmen in the procedures necessary to organize and run a successful Brotherhood Fund campaign. Coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m., and is expected to run about two hours. It is important that every Lodge be represented by its Brotherhood Fund Chairman or another designee at this meeting.

2006 DDGM Visits
It's almost that time again! The District Deputy Grand Master, RW Joe Leo, and and his traveling road show will be coming soon to a Lodge near you! Are you ready? Know what to do? We'll cover all the protocol at the School of Instruction on Monday September 11th. To view the schedule, please click here.
