September is finally here and we will be returning to our Lodges and one of the busiest months of Masonic activity in recent memory. Most Lodges are preparing for next weekend's interfaith services and breakfasts, and some Lodges have elected to begin then Fall with their In-Lodge Rededication programs at their very first meetings! Well, that's a sure sign that summer is definitely over, and I hope everyone brushed up on the ritual and recharged their Masonic batteries so that you and your Lodges can hit the ground running.

We will also begin the cycle of DDGM Visits at the end of this month, and the District Team is preparing to assist you with your programs. It's important for officers to attend this month's masters and Wardens Meeting and School of Instruction on Monday September 11th in Mountainville. Much of the protocol and procedures for these visits will be covered as well as a opportunity to address Lodge concerns.

If you haven't heard about an Officers Meeting at your Lodges, please be sure to ask your Worshipful Master when they are. Even as a Past Master or a new Brother, you should be encouraging your officers to work together. Too any Masters are carrying the weights of the Lodge on their shoulders and they need help from anyone and anywhere they can get it. How will YOU personally help to lessen his burden and help improve the programs of YOUR Lodge?

So there we have it, summer vacation is over, the kids are going back to school, and we're going back to the quarries. There's much to do but so much more to be gained by active participation in the fellowship, service, and ritual of your Lodge. Please plan to attend as many activities to support the Craft as possible this month, including the Masonic Family Days at Tappan and West Point. Bring your families, share Freemasonry yourself, and prepare to rededicate yourself to our principles and tenets. We look forward to hearing how things go!

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVES

It is our pleasure to announce that our Grand Master, M:.W:. Neal I. Bidnick, has appointed the following worthy Brothers of the Orange-Rockland District as new Grand Representatives:

R:.W:. Ronald W. Stoveland of Hudson River Lodge No. 309
Grand Representative of the State of Oregon near the Grand Lodge of NY

R:.W:. Charles Nagel of Goshen Lodge No. 365
Grand Representative of Baja California, Mexico near the Grand Lodge of NY

We congratulate these Brothers on their appointments and invite you to join us at the District Apron Presentation ceremonies on Sunday October 1st at the Walden Fire House in Walden, NY where these Brothers, along with our District Deputy Grand Master, Grand Director of Ceremonies, and Assistant Grand Lecturers will also receive their aprons and letters of commission and appointment. For more information, please see the notice under District News in this issue.

A LABOR DAY MESSAGE FROM OUR GRAND MASTER

My Brothers,

The long days of summer are fading and we are rapidly approaching Labor Day and the start of a new season. Now, as autumn leaves begin to turn to gold, we pause to mark Labor Day … a national holiday we traditionally celebrate as a family day. But in a larger sense it also honors all us who labor in our great nation and those who preceded us and built the foundations of our great democracy.

Labor Day is a holiday to which all of us as Masons can relate. We who labor in the quarries of Masonry have much to celebrate. Joyce, Brian and I have been fortunate to participate with so many of you this summer in pleasurable Masonic milestones. And now, we all join together in September to begin a year long celebration of the 225th Anniversary of Freemasonry in New York.

As this celebration commences, Joyce and I will be watching our only son, Brian, leave the nest, and begin a new phase of his education at college. I know that, as he leaves, he has a strong foundation of family love and tradition to keep him on his path, while pursuing his dreams, aspirations and goals.

In the same way, I know that we as a Fraternity are at a similar point: we have our traditions and principles to guide our steps and our labor, while we strive to keep our Craft strong by drawing new plans upon our Trestleboard. With the legacy of 225 years to support us, our labors today and in the coming years will ensure that Freemasonry remains a vital and active part of our world. In September I urge you to rededicate yourself and your Lodge to the principles of our Brotherhood as so clearly stated in the Masonic Compact. With your active involvement we have an unprecedented opportunity to move our beloved fraternity forward to new heights of accomplishments. The best years of the Fraternity are ahead of us, not behind us, if we labor together.

On behalf of our family and your Elected and Appointed Grand Line, we hope that you and yours enjoy this Labor Day holiday to the fullest. God Bless you and your family. God Bless our Fraternity. May God continue to watch over our men and women in military service... and may God continue to Bless America!

Fraternally,
Neal I. Bidnick
Grand Master

DISTRICT NEWS

Tune in Your Radio
Brethren in the Rockland County area who can receive WRCR Radio (1300 on the AM dial) are invited to tune in on Wednesday morning, September 6th at 7:30 a.m. when our Grand Master Neal Bidnick will be interviewed on the Steve and Sophia morning show. Topics to be discussed will include the 225th Anniversary of Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in New York and local events and Masonic activities.

This is a "call-in" radio program and Brothers and the family and friends are urged to call in and ask questions of the Grand Master and/or comment upon what we do as Masons in our local community. The studio call-in phone number is (845) 624 - 1300.

225th Anniversary Activities
Nine of our twelve Lodges are in the final planning stages for their Interfaith Services and Breakfasts. On Saturday September 9th, Hoffman and Port Jervis Lodges will present a joint program in Port Jervis and Naurashank Lodge will hold its interfaith service and breakfast in Pearl River. On Sunday September 10th, Hudson River and Jerusalem Temple Lodges will present a joint service and breakfast in Mountainville, Stony Point-Wawayanda and Athelstane will present a joint service and breakfast at the American Legion Post in Sparkill, and Goshen and Cornerstone Lodges are working together on a service and breakfast in Goshen. Wallkill Lodge has announced plans to hold a 225th Anniversary interfaith service and breakfast in October. If your Lodge is not holding a service and breakfast, we encourage you to attend one of these and join us in celebrating 225 years of fraternity and service to our communities.

The other major 225th Anniversary event that each Lodge has been asked to participate in is holding an In-Lodge Rededication program at one of its meetings in September. Please be sure to ask your officers when that will be so that you can attend. Better yet, think about a Brother that you haven't seen in Lodge for awhile and call him up, offer him a ride, help him to see the importance of rededicating ourselves to the purposes of Freemasonry. It should be a very special evening!

All of the information to run these two programs, including the actual scripts, attendance forms, bookplates, and press release templates are available for download by clicking here. We hope to see you at these programs!

District Apron Presentations
The new District Deputy Grand Master and Grand Director of Ceremonies, our two Assistant Grand Lecturers, and new Grand Representatives will be honored at a District Apron Presentation which will be held on Sunday October 1st at the Walden Fire House in Walden, NY. The Grand Master and many members of the elected and appointed Grand Line will be present for the festivities which includes a luncheon beginning at noon. The price is $15 per person, with children under twelve invited to attend for free.

Masters and Wardens Meeting
The Masters and Wardens will meet at (air conditioned!) Jerusalem Temple Lodge on Monday September 11th at 7:00 p.m., and we look forward to hearing reports about the 225th Anniversary Interfaith Services and Breakfasts being held around the district on September 10th. The meeting will be held prior to the School of Instruction which will convene at 8:00 p.m. The trestleboard for the School will be a brief program on Balloting, DDGM Visits, and Basic Lodge Protocol followed by a social hour with cards and refreshments. We hope to see everyone there!

Masonic Family Day at Tappan
You and your families are cordially invited to join our Grand Master and his Line on Sunday September 17th at noon as we celebrate Masonic Family Day at Tappan. Held on the awe inspiring grounds of the DeWint House at the George Washington National Historic Site, this day will have activities for the whole family to enjoy. Tour the grounds which can only be called a Masonic arboretum, visit the home used by George Washington as his headquarters several times during the Revolutionary War, and talk with costumed re enactors. Bring your kids to learn Colonial crafts and play Colonial games, and watch a puppet show. Instead of a expensive formal brunch, we'll be serving hamburgers and hotdog's at family-friendly prices. Help is needed by Brothers from the District but we're only asking for a few hours to help with set up and to man the grills. If you can help out, please contact the DDGM or come to the next ORDMA meeting if you can. We'd love to see you there!

Masonic Family Day at West Point
Join us again on Saturday September 30th for Masonic Family Day at West Point with all new activities at very old prices! We've kept the price of the day down to last year's price while providing even more fun for you and your families! Last year's price of $31 per person now includes not only your ticket to the football game of Army vs. Rice, but also seating under a huge tent with tables and chairs right alongside the scenic Hudson River. Family members who do not wish to attend the game can enjoy the day at this scenic location with crafts and activities for the kids for $10. Parking passes are $5 and you are urged to carpool as spots are limited. Coffee and pastries in the morning and watermelon and cold drinks throughout the day are included in the basic pricing, and a chicken barbecue with all the fixings is available for $7.50, or being your own picnic lunch to enjoy down by the river. For more information, click here.

Athelstane Lodge and the MDA
Once again, Athelstane Lodge will be assisting with the annual Labor Day Telethon in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. They have some positions open to answer phones (live on TV!) during their shift which starts at 8:40 a.m. on Monday September 4th.

To help get the ball rolling, literally, the Lodge will be holding a Bowl-a-Thon to raise funds for the MDA on August 27th and September 3rd at 1:00 p.m. on both days. The entry fee of $12 covers three games of bowling and shoe rentals at Pearl River Lanes, which is next door to the Pr earl River Masonic Temple. You can download a sponsor form by clicking here. We hope you will join the Brothers in raising funds and offering your time to support this very worthy cause!

Orange-Rockland Child ID Training
It is regrettable that our Community Service chairman, Wor. Wayne Flavin, was the only Brother from the District who was able to attend the training on the new Child ID system last weekend. With the new system now in place, it is imperative that every Lodge participating in the Child ID program have a team trained in the use of the new computer-based system. To facilitate this, a training session will be held on the morning of Saturday October 28th at the Cornwall Masonic Temple in Mountainville, NY at 10:00 a.m. All Lodges are encouraged to send a team to the training, and some other local service and law enforcement organizations have been invited to join us for this training.

Brotherhood Fund Meeting
R:.W:. Robert Stack, Chairman of the Masonic Brotherhood Fund, and members of his team will be at Hoffman Lodge in Middletown, NY on Saturday November 4th to train local Lodge and District chairmen in the procedures necessary to organize and run a successful Brotherhood Fund campaign. Coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m., and is expected to run about two hours. It is important that every Lodge be represented by its Brotherhood Fund Chairman or another designee at this meeting.

2006 DDGM Visits
It's almost that time again! The District Deputy Grand Master, RW Joe Leo, and and his traveling road show will be coming soon to a Lodge near you! Are you ready? Know what to do? We'll cover all the protocol at the School of Instruction on Monday September 11th. To view the schedule, please click here.
