I can't believe we've reached issue number ten! Response to this newsletter around the District has been very positive and I thank everyone who has taken the time to submit events and spread the word about this publication and all of the activities going on around here. There's a sense of amity and relaxed fellowship starting to spread and several have commented on it. Things just keep getting better and better. Our Lodges are making greater efforts to work together and support one another. A few weeks ago, Stony Point-Wawayada and Hudson River Lodges put on a joint Master Mason degree. Tomorrow, Saturday, Goshen, Cornerstone, and Warwick Lodges will be doing the same in Goshen. Several Lodges have responded with contributions for Brothers Walter and Bruce Hess of Hudson River Lodge who lost everything in the recent flooding; now Jerusalem Temple Lodge has announced that they will be donating half od the profits from their July 15th Coffeehouse fundraiser to assist these Brothers in distress. This, my Brothers, is what Masonry is all about and you should be proud of yourselves! Your District staff has met to begin plans for the Fall DDGM Visits, and we're working hard to deliver a shorter, more dynamic program to explain the opportunities available to our Lodges and deliver our Grand Master's message which lays out a plan to help us rebuild our beloved Craft. I hope you relax and recharge your batteries over the summer break, but also encourage all of you to reflect upon the tenets of our Craft and hope that the new officers will return to their Lodges in September proficient in their ritual and ready to take their place in the quarries of Masonry. If you want to learn some tips about how to learn and teach ritual, be sure to read the School of Instruction news in this issue. That's it for now, have a great week! Brothers in Distress
An appeal has gone out to the Brothers of the Orange-Rockland District in support of Brother Bruce Hess and his father, Brother Walter Hess, both members of Hudson River Lodge, who lost everything in their mobile homes due to the floods in Kirkwood, NY. They are currently staying with their daughter-in-law in the Newburgh area. Each day they go up to their homes to salvage what they can, but have lost just about everything. Walter Hess is 75 years old and has 35 years as a member of the Craft and Bruce Hess is 52 years old and has 29 years as a member of the Craft. Several Lodges have already contributed to their relief and others are making plans to do so. Jerusalem Temple Lodge had a Coffeehouse planned for July 15th as a Lodge fundraiser and has changed their plans to donate half the profits to these Brothers in Distress (click here for details). Any contributions you may wish to give will also be forwarded to them. Please send all donations to: Hudson River Lodge #309 DISTRICT NEWS
